Bob Siegel

Robert H Siegel (Bob) was the founding Partner with Charles Gwathmey in the firm of Gwathmey Siegel Architects in 1967. Bob and Charles meet as classmates at Music and Art High School in New York City. After attending different Schools of Architecture, Bob, Pratt Institute Bach of Architecture and Harvard Graduate School of Design Master of Architecture. Charles, Yale School of Architecture Master of Architecture, they reconnected as staff Architects in the Office of Edward Larrabee Barnes Architect.

Gwathmey Siegel

The Gwathmey Siegel firm which as it expanded became the Gwathmey Siegel and Associates firm completed 400 projects ranging in building type including; Educational Building Types, Campus Master Plans, Museums, Libraries, Residential and Hospitality Towers, Office Buildings, Private Residences, as well as a wide range of Adaptive Use and Interior Design projects throughout the United States and abroad. Bob and Charles worked collaboratively on the Conceptual Design and Design Development of project working across a large desk sketching and discussing design ideas before moving the project for continued development by the staff under the direction of the Associate Architects with continued direction from the Parters. The firm received numerous design awards as well as the prestigious American Institute of Architects National Firm of the Year award in 1982. Bob and Charles individually received the New York City A.I.A. Medal of Honor for developing “one of the creative practices of our time”.

In addition to the practice of Architecture Bob was a Trustee of Pratt Institute for 24 years. He served as Chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee during the period of rebuilding physical facilities and Campus infrastructure. Subsequently he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for six years and Vice Chairman until he stepped down from active Trustee participation. He has continued on as a Trustee Emeritus. At the Harvard Graduate School of Design he served on the Alumni Advisory Committee.
